About the Society

The Music Players' Society (MPS) is the University of Sheffield's largest instrumental society and runs bands covering a range of different styles. All of our bands have no auditions and are open to staff and students at both Sheffield universities, as well as other members of the local community. Learn more about us via the pages below. We look forward to seeing you at a rehearsal or gig of ours very soon!

REHEARSALS

Want to join one of our bands? Find out more about our weekly rehearsals!

COMMITTEE

The Society is run by committee members who are elected annually in our AGM.

TOURS

Our bands go on an international tour each year. Past destinations include Brussels, Cologne, Holland and Paris.

Keep an eye on our Facebook page to see first any news about our upcoming tours.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership costs £5 for one year and £3 for one semester. Membership allows you to play in as many bands as you like and also in our gigs. You can attend up to two rehearsals before we ask you to pay membership which means you can try us out before having to commit.

EQUIPMENT

A selection of our equipment is available to hire for competitive prices as a perk of MPS membership and also to local groups and student societies. Please contact our equipment officer for further information.

MPS RADIO SHOW

MPS has it's own weekly radio show on Sheffield Students' Union's Forge Radio! Hosted on Saturdays during term-time, tune-in for the soothing tones of a rotating cast of the MPS gang.
