The Music Players' Society (MPS) is the University of Sheffield's largest instrumental society and runs bands covering a range of different styles, as well as practice spaces for students and groups. All of our bands have no auditions and are open to staff and students at both Sheffield universities, as well as other members of the local community. Learn more about us via the pages below. We look forward to seeing you at a rehearsal or gig of ours very soon!
We have six different bands covering a range of styles, all of which are completely non-auditioned and are open to any musician who simply wants to turn up and play! Find out more about these below!
We offer a selection of slots on Thursday evenings for drummers to practice on a kit in a private room, AND also for bands / private groups to rehearse for really cheap! We provide the hardware and sound equipment!
A selection of our equipment is available to hire for competitive prices as a perk of MPS membership and also to local groups and student societies. Please contact our equipment officer for further information.
Membership costs £5 for one year and £3 for one semester. It gives you access to any of our bands, and also to perform our gigs. You can attend up to two rehearsals free of charge, so you can try us out before having to commit!
Looking to add live music to your party or event?
We can help with that. Our bands are all bookable at highly competitive prices and all perform at a very high standard.
Feel free to email us about any other enquiries.
